Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a 40 kD glycoprotein. It has been detected in several cases of germ cell tumors of the ovary and testis. This hormone can be localized immunohistologically in the syncytiotrophoblast of the placenta. In general, any tumor-containing cells which produce hCG, isolated or within the choriocarcinoma, would demonstrate positive stain localized to those specific cells by immunostaining. This antibody stains alpha hCG in the cytoplasm of positive germ cells, neuroendocrine tumor cells, breast tumor cells and other positive cells.
